See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

One of my favorite things you get when reading fanfic is author’s commentary. It’s much easier to understand the purpose behind a work of fanfic than other media, because a lot of the time the author makes their intent clear.

Sometimes it’s subtle, in the form of tags, when you can see the author’s preference peeking out. Or the fact that you’ve read all 22 works this particular author has made about this series and you’ve kinda figured out their Vibe.

Sometimes they leave author’s notes or comments detailing that a scene was inspired by a real life event, or warning against the actions a character had taken in the chapter because that character is flawed and was giving shitty advice. Or a downright play-by-play of what their thought process was while writing. Those are my favorites.

Media is fun to analyze. But every work has context behind its themes, and while you certainly don’t have to take authorial intent into consideration, it’s kinda fun to see if you’re getting out the same thing they put in, y’know?
